Privacy Policy

Your plants are
nobody's business.

Last updated: May 23, 2026
Short version

Canopy does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data. Everything you put into the app — plants, photos, notes, schedules — stays on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no third-party tracking.

1. The data Canopy handles

Canopy is a local-first app. When you use it, the following information is created and stored only on your device:

  • Plant names, nicknames, species, room/location, and notes you enter
  • Photos of your plants that you select or capture
  • Care schedules (watering, misting, feeding, repotting) and the dates you complete each task
  • Your app preferences — theme, accent color, daily reminder time

This data is stored in your iPhone's local application storage and, if you have enabled iCloud Backup for the device, may be included in your encrypted iCloud backup managed by Apple. Canopy itself has no servers and never receives a copy.

2. What Canopy does not collect

Canopy does not collect, transmit, or have access to:

  • Your name, email address, phone number, or any account identifier
  • Your IP address, device identifiers, advertising identifiers, or location
  • Analytics, crash reports, usage statistics, or any telemetry
  • Any of the plant data, photos, or notes you enter into the app

We do not use any third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, attribution, or tracking.

3. Permissions Canopy requests

Canopy may ask for the following iOS permissions, all of which are optional and used only on your device:

Camera

If you choose to take a photo of a plant from within the app, Canopy asks for camera access. Photos are saved to your plant's profile on this device only.

Photo Library

If you choose to attach a photo from your camera roll, Canopy asks for photo library access. We never read or upload any photo you haven't explicitly picked.

Notifications

If you enable the daily reminder, Canopy asks permission to send local notifications. These notifications are scheduled on your device by iOS; nothing is sent to or received from any server.

4. Children's privacy

Canopy is suitable for all ages. Because Canopy does not collect any personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect information from children under 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction).

5. Data sharing and third parties

We do not sell, share, rent, trade, or otherwise disclose any data to third parties, because we do not collect any to begin with.

Canopy is distributed through the Apple App Store. Apple may collect aggregate, anonymous information about downloads and crashes under their own privacy policy. We have no access to information that could identify you personally.

6. Your rights and choices

Because your data lives only on your iPhone, you have full control at all times:

  • Access: open the app to see everything that's stored.
  • Edit or delete a plant: tap any plant and remove it, or tap edit to change details.
  • Delete everything: uninstall Canopy from your iPhone to remove all app data.

7. Security

Your data benefits from iOS's standard app-sandbox protections. If you have a device passcode set, your data is also covered by Apple's Data Protection encryption. We recommend keeping iOS up to date and using a device passcode.

8. Changes to this policy

If we ever update this policy, the revised version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Material changes will be highlighted within the app on next launch.
